Guest Professor Dr. Dr. E.h. Vallam Sundar

Department of Ocean Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai 600 036, India.

Collaboration: The Ocean Engineering Centre (OEC) of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) has had an intensive collaboration with the University of Wuppertal for decades. In March 1998, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between IITM and the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Wuppertal.

One-year guest lectureship (October 1, 2001 to September 30, 2002), funded by DAAD. Further stays in 2003, 2004, and planned for the upcoming year.

Special Honors: On June 1, 2006, Prof. Sundar was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing. E.h.) by the University of Wuppertal.

Impact on Research and Teaching: The collaboration between the institutes has included numerous successful research projects and an intensive exchange of scientific personnel, resulting in many international publications. Additionally, several students from the University of Wuppertal have had the opportunity to complete their diploma or thesis at OEC.
